It's official! The new Sony Xperia Z4 is coming! Tech Crunch has reported that the Japanese electronics giant has finally unveiled its latest Z series handset, the Xperia Z4.

But here's the catch; currently, Sony has only detailed about the new device on Sony's Japanese website and none of its websites in other regions has the Z4 update and details. Note that the website did not even mention whether an international release would happen or whether other variants such as Compact would also be available.

Anyway, let's get into the device's specs and features. According to CNET, the new handset would have a 5.2-inch, full-HD display, with a screen resolution of 1,920x1,080-pixel. It would be slim at 6.9mm. Its bezels are also to be proud of as it It will weigh 144 grams. The phone's measurement is 146mm by 72mm.

Sony's Z series is known for their great 20.7 megapixel cameras, and this new product is no exception. Aside from the 20.7 megapixel main camera, the new Xperia Z4 would get a 5-megapixel front camera, perfect for taking selfies. Xperia Z4 also comes with an IP6X dustproof rating and is IPX5 and IPX8-certified. CNET said this means that "it's not only splash-resistant but can survive being totally submerged in water for an indefinite amount of time." Its USB ports are also said to be waterproof.

The Xperia Z4 is powered by a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor. Plus, it has a 3GB of RAM and the newest Android 5.0 Lollipop as OS. As for storage, the new device is to boast of its 32GB of memory. Plus, it also has a microSD slot which can take up to 128GB. It will be offered with a 2,930mAh battery. CNET said the new handset will be available in white, black, copper, and aqua green. Its price has yet to be revealed.

"The Xperia Z4 was not announced as a global device, nor was it announced at some grandiose international media event like MWC. The device is, as it stands now, aimed at Japanese consumers in Japan," Android Authority's Matthew Benson noted.

Benson said that the release might actually have something to do with Samsung's new phones.

"Now consider Sony's situation: it knows Japanese customers like the Xperia brand, but it has nothing new to offer at the moment. Unless it announces something big, there is a risk of Samsung taking part of its market share...Sony announced the Xperia Z4 just days before the release of the new Galaxy phones. Not the press release mind you, but the actual release. This strategy is brilliant, as it ensures everyone is talking about Sony and the Xperia Z4 when all attention would otherwise be focused on the upcoming Samsung products," to further quote Benson.

Meanwhile, CNET reported that Sony "is considering the feasibility (of releasing the new device) in other markets," citing an unidentified Sony representative.
