Today, Apple is expected to debut the rumored iPad mini.

Rumors about the iPad mini have been circulating for weeks. Consumers wanted to know about its features, look and most importantly, how much it would cost.

Apple is live streaming and CNET is providing live coverage of the event, which is taking place in the California Theatre in San Jose, Calif. The online Apple store is "closed," displaying a note saying "We're busy updating the Apple store for you and will be back soon."

Analysts said with competition from other tablets, Apple was forced to provide a cheaper alternative, other than the iPad, to compete with Amazon's Kindle Fire and other tablets.

Amy Grahran said the device will have a smaller screen, 7 to 7.8 inches, will be Wi-Fi only and will have at least two carrier-specific 4G models (Verizon and AT&T.)

"Most importantly, to appeal to the small-tablet consumer market, Apple probably will need to limit the iPad Mini starting price to about $150 to $200. Consequently, the lowest-end iPad Mini may only offer 8 gigabytes of built-in memory -- and I'm betting that no iPad Mini will offer Apple's high-end Retina display," she said.

An recent article on Latinos Post confirmed some of these speculations, saying it would indeed have a screen around 7.8 inches and be priced from $249-$299. The article added that it won't have Apple's Retina display, instead, use a LCD display and run on Apple's iOS 6.

Reports are also surfacing that, like previous Keynotes, Apple may reveal more than one product today. The 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display may debut today as well.

Live streaming video requires Safari 4 or later on Mac OS X v10.6 or later; Safari on iOS 4.2 or later. Streaming via Apple TV requires second- or third-generation Apple TV with software 5.0.2 or later
