It looks like that we are now just counting a few weeks before we could finally get to see the next Sony flagship device. We know that many fans were disappointed when the new handset was not showcased during the Consumer Electronics Show this month. Based from what we heard, the device might finally arrive this March during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. The news comes after GSM Arena reported that the device, to be known as Sony Xperia Z4, has already been certified by the Japanese Communication Ministry and by its counterpart in the United States.

According to the January 16 report of GSM Arena, the Japanese wireless authority has already approved the new Sony device which could mean that the electronics giant is indeed eyeing an MWC launch date. The report added that the device will be in three versions -- "NTT DoCoMo, KDDI and SoftBank." The three reportedly support Voice-over-LTE as well as Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac.

Two days later, the same news outlet reported that the Xperia Z4 also allegedly received a nod from the US Federal Communications Commission. The report however noted that no further details were revealed though it was stated that it would support LTE bands 2, 5 and 7. Check out the leaked image from GSM Arena here.

Technology Tell said that there is still no certainty if the new device that has been certified is indeed the Xperia Z4. "Unfortunately, there's no way to confirm the handheld's identity just yet. The two certification agencies bestowed it with vague, cryptic model numbers, namely PM-0850-BV, PM-0792-BV, 0793 and 0794."

The report suggested that there is even a possibility that the model numbers point to not just one but two separate devices. It noted that the other one could either be Z4's Compact or Ultra version.

Meanwhile, contrary to assumptions that the device would be unveiled at the upcoming MWC event, Techno Buffalo says that it is uncertain since the Japanese firm has not yet issued any invitations, unlike HTC.

For the specs, GSM Arena said that the new flagship device would likely inherit some of the "defining features" of its predecessor, the Xperia Z3. It said that just like the Z3, it might also get a 5.2 inches Triluminos display, the notable Xperia design, and the water resistance feature. language. It added that the device might also probably get a Snapdragon 810 chipset and Cat. 9 LTE connectivity.

It is also expected that the new Xperia Z4 will get the new Android 5.0 Lollipop as its OS and a 20.7 megapixel main camera and a 4.8 megapixel front snapper. It is also rumored to get a 32GB internal memory, a 4GB RAM, a 3,420mAh battery, LTE Cat 9 connectivity, and Bluetooth 4.1.
