Tickets for the much awaited "Fifty Shades of Grey" movie are already selling like hot cakes, weeks before it hits theaters.

Deadline says that Fandango has confirmed that the erotic romance movie "Fifty Shades of Grey" is so far, the fastest selling advance ticket R-rated title in the company's 15-year history."

Dave Karger, Fandango Chief Correspondent, was quoted in the Deadline report saying that only a few books can be considered as a "true national phenomenon" and that "Fifty Shades" is indeed one of those few. With "Fifty Shades" being compared to other hit movies like "Twilight," "The Hunger Games," "Star Wars," and "Avengers," it is indeed no doubt that a second installment is a possibility. The report added that the movie outshone several other hit R-rated movies like "Sex and the City 2," "The Hangover Part II," "The Hangover Part III," and the recently released "Gone Girl."

Note that "Sex and the City 2" earned $305.1 million in 2010, "The Hangover Part II" grossed $586.8 million in 2011, "The Hangover Part III" got $362 million in 2013, and "Gone Girl" took home $365 million last year. Cinema Blend says that these totals are not what "Fifty Shades" aims for as the movie is expected to earn even more. It revealed that due to the "fervent" demand for the movie, Fandango has been adding more time for it to be shown.

MTV claims that it may have been Motion Picture Association of America's (MPAA) "unusual behavior" warning that has boosted fans' desires to see the movie on the big screen.

The "Fifty Shades of Grey" movie which is based on the book series written by E.L. James has been given an R rating by the MPAA due to "strong sexual content including dialogue, some unusual behavior and graphic nudity, and for language." However, it was earlier speculated that the movie will be given an NC-17 rating. "Fifty Shades" executives said they already expected the R-rating.

The movie tells the story of college student Anastasia Steele and handsome young businessman Christian Grey who met when she interviewed him for a school paper article. The two eventually have sex and engaged in a non-disclosure and dominance and submission agreement. The book from which the movie is based is considered as "one of the biggest and fastest-selling book series ever." The trilogy was even translated into more than 50 languages worldwide.

As for the cast list, the role of Christian Grey is played by Jamie Dornan while Dakota Johnson portrays the role of Anastasia. Joining them are Luke Grimes as Elliot, Victor Rasuk as José, Eloise Mumford as Kate, Marcia Gay Harden as Dr. Grace Trevelyan Grey, Rita Ora as Mia, Max Martini as Taylor, Callum Keith Rennie as Ray, Jennifer Ehle as Carla, and Dylan Neal as Bob. The movie is directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and produced by Dana Brunetti, Michael De Luca, and E.L. James. The screenplay is by Kelly Marcel. It will hit theaters on Valentine's Day this year.
