Recent rumors are suggesting that the next generation of iPhones will probably be packed with new and cool features.

According to the the January 2 report of Design and Trend, there is a high chance that Apple will introduce new and cool features such as facial recognition in its rumored iPhone 7, allegedly scheduled to be unveiled this year. It noted that one of the highlights of the new device will be its new facial recognition feature.

The report said several statistics have showed that facial recognition has 95 percent of success rate in correctly identifying owners, higher than the effectiveness when using fingerprint. Since Apple has been known to be very particular in investing in biometrics, it is only logical to think that the Cupertino-based firm would definitely invest on a "more reliable" identification method. This would also increase the chances of Apple arriving on top in terms of its competition with Android smartphones.

Aside from this facial recognition feature, Design and Trend also speculates that the new iPhone would probably get a camera upgrade. It said it is alleged that the new iPhone could get as high as 21 megapixel camera which has a DSLR-quality camera lens.

It also noted that some believe the device would get a specialized dual-lens camera system. It also aired speculations of a new iPhone getting built-in projectors, allowing the device to project its display onto any surface.

Know Your Mobile, citing Daring Fireball's John Gruber, revealed that users will be amazed with the new iPhone's camera. In the podcast, Gruber revealed that a source told him this will be the "biggest camera jump ever."

"I've heard that it's some kind of weird two-lens system where the back camera uses two lenses and it somehow takes it up into DSLR quality imagery," he was quoted in the report saying.

It was earlier reported that Apple is preparing two iPhones for this year: the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 7. Stabley Times predicted that the iPhone 7 will be out in September, following the spring release of the iPhone 6S. It also noted that the iPhone 6s would probably be released with the new Apple Watch.

The report also aired the possibility of Apple shifting to a six month release timetable to compete with Samsung's more frequent release of phones. Let's note that Apple has consistently released only one handset per year. But this obviously came to an end when it released its iPhone 5S and the cheaper iPhone 5C in 2013 and the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus last year.

A concept image created by Deviantart designer Xerix93 shows the new iPhone 7 with an aluminum unibody with mono-crystalline diamond, measuring 4.7 inches in size. It also suggests that it might get a 1920x1080 resolution with Retina HD display and the new iOS 9 as operating system.

It said it will likely be available in several colors -- silver, space grey, black, and gold.

Here's a separate concept image made by designer Martin Hajek.
