Barely 6 months after the official release of Microsoft's Surface Pro 3, rumors of its next version have started swirling around cybersphere lately. Will the tech giant outdo itself and come up with an even better iteration of its tablet?

"The Surface Pro 3 is an exceptionally-designed, and well-engineered piece of hardware," Forbes noted. "Microsoft developed a number of innovative features that set the Surface Pro 3 experience apart from pretty much anything else out there, and the device truly lives up to the marketing tagline, 'The tablet that can replace your laptop.'"

Meanwhile, PC World's March Hachman said that his Surface Pro 3 has, "quietly replaced my PC."

"Microsoft's tablet ticks off all the important boxes, so I'm at a loss for any reason to switch back," he said.

With all that praise, can the Bill Gates-founded company really deliver with the fourth generation Surface Pro?

Talk has it that the upcoming Surface Pro 4 will be issued in not one but two sizes - "an 8-inch screen variant and a bigger one, which will be about 13 to 14 inches in size," as noted by Christian Today. The smaller models may allow us to get Microsoft tablets at a lower price tag. Currently, prices for the Surface Pro 3 begins at $800 and can reach up to $1,400.

There also are rumors that the upcoming version will have a better, more powerful processor and increased RAM. Also, it's naturally expected to be installed with Windows 10, which is still being tested right now. However, this may also come with its own share of glitches.

"Fresh operating systems are usually loaded with bugs and irks at the dawn of their rollout," Christian Today continued. "Windows 10 has a higher chance of not being spared of this curse. Nevertheless, the software is expected to bring loads of fixes and improvements to Windows 8, which was heavily criticized."

Additionally, rumor has it that Windows 10 will be coming in late 2015, which may mean that Surface Pro 4 may be released about a year after that (2016), according to Android Origin. Although the wait may seem long, the projected 2016 release may prove to be fitting, as it gives consumers enough time to make the most of the current model.

Right now, Surface Pro 3 has a 12-inch, 2160 x 1440 pixel resolution display, and comes with Intel Core processors i3, i5, and i7, as well as an 8-gigabyte RAM. It's not hard to imagine its next iteration as getting better features about 2 years from now. A lot of things can happen by then which may help Microsoft come up with a device that pushes the envelope a bit and give Samsung and Apple a real run for their money.
