If you waited in line for the iPhone 5 today instead of preordering, consider yourself lucky as the preorders have been delayed for three to four weeks.

Across nine countries, people have lined up, some for hours, others for days, for Apple's latest smartphone. The latest iPhone features a four-inch Retina Display screen with a resolution of 1,136x640, the new iOS 6, an eight-megapixel camera on the rear and two-megapixels on the front, A6 processor - making the device run twice as fast compared to the iPhone 4S -, three microphones - on the front, back, and bottom of the device-, and the new Lightning Adapter.

The delays come as Apple announced that more than two million people have placed a preorder within 24 hours of its Sept. 14 release. Those people, however, will have to wait.

According to the International Business Times, Apple said on Monday that the demand for the iPhone 5 exceeded their initial supply. Apple did say a majority of the preordered iPhone 5s will be delivered to customers today, Sept. 21.

The iPhone 5 was released nationally in the US at 356 Apple Stores at 8 a.m. local time. The first person to get the iPhone 5 from the Fifth Avenue Apple Store is Hazem Sayed, who lined up for several days.

Apple fans in Japan and Hong Kong won't have to worry about the preorder delays as preorders were not being accepted there.

People on Twitter are tweeting their displeasure about the delays:

*NIQUE*: So my IPhone5 is on shipment delay... I'm soooooo not n the mood today!

Reggie Jeramy: aye @UPS please DELAY as long as possible and take your time delivering those iPhone 5's

Jackie Bradshaw: Bloody iphone 5 is to blame for the delay in my phone delivery grrr #samsungforever

Justin: 3-5 weeks delay to get the iPhone 5 if you pre ordered it. Wowwwwwwwww

Deborah Gardner: Got an email and 10:30pm phone call to let me know there's a shipping delay for my iPhone 5. Womp womp woooooomp

What do you think is the better way to get the iPhone 5, waiting in the long lines or preorder despite the delays?
