One day after Bank of America customers experienced slowness in accessing their accounts via the banks' Web site, Chase bank customers reported similar issues.

Keynote, a monitoring firm, announced that the Chase.com Web site began running slowly at around noon on Thursday. The problems seem to have since cleared up, but some customers are still reporting hindered access.

Just after 1:30 this afternoon, Chase tweeted "Chase.com is experiencing intermittent issues. We're working to restore full connectivity and apologize for any inconvenience."

The Bank of America Web site has fully recovered since yesterday but refused to reveal the cause of the glitch.

CNN reports that there are two possible causes for the service issues. Both banks have recently made changes to their Web sites, which may have caused the problems.

Also, a hacker group recently called for attacks on the Web sites for both banks as well as on the Web site for the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). The NYSE has not reported any technical issues as of yet, but more than one hacker group has claimed responsibility for the sluggish service on the Chase and Bank of America sites. So far there has been no evidence to support that hackers were behind attacks on either Web site.

A Bank of America spokesperson reassured customers on Tuesday that the issues with its Web site did not have anything to do with hacking.

"I can assure you we continuously take proactive measures to secure our systems," the spokesperson said.

Chase has declined comment on its own Web site issues.
