Barely a month after Apple released the iOS 8.1 update, the American tech giant has unveiled the iOS 8.1.1 patch on November 17 which is meant to improve the performance of earlier versions of its mobile devices, reports The Verge.

The latest update to Apple's mobile operating system comes with bug fixes that shall update the security features, increase the stability, and improve the performance of the iPad 2 and the iPhone 4S in particular, notes iSource.

To download the iOS 8.1.1 update, open the Settings of your Apple mobile device; select General, then select Software Update, and then click on Download and Install.

Or you can also opt to update the mobile operating system of your Apple device by connecting to iTunes via USB.

The Verge reports that the new update to Apple iOS will speed things up for the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S, which are considered old by the American tech giant's timeline.

"We've (witnessed) it several times. Installing major new versions of iOS on old hardware can often result in degraded performance, making the user experience slower and worse than it had before. That was true (in the case) of iOS 7 last year," notes The Verge.

The new update to Apple's mobile operating system is the company's way of making things better for consumers still using their early mobile devices, added the report.

Not for the Jailbroken

The latest update to the iOS is applicable to all Apple mobile devices running on earlier versions of the mobile system, except for those which have already been jailbroken, cites iSource.

"If you are currently jailbroken, stay away from this update as it will break the Pangu Jailbreak released last month," states the report.

The iOS 8.1.1 will patch the iOS 8.0 jailbreak alright. But once the jailbreak is patched, it will no longer be usable for those who shall upgrade to iOS 8.1.1, points out iDigital Times in a November 4 report.

The Pangu development team has already warned previously that the iOS 8.1.1 will kill its untethered jailbreak. The team made this clear through a Reddit post in early November which read: "Anyone who wishes to jailbreak, please seize the chance to upgrade to iOS 8.1 and do so before Apple officially releases iOS 8.1.1."

"If you are interested in jailbreaking your iOS device, and you haven't update to iOS 8.1, your window of opportunity is quickly closing," warns iSource.

While Apple is still signing updates to iOS 8.1 at this time, it has become part of the company's business strategy to stop signing older versions of its OS or iOS within a few days after the release of a new system, notes the report.
