The biggest feature of the iPhone 5 might be, well, it's bigger screen. Despite the fact that the next-gen handset will be taller, Apple has kept the device thinner and lighter than the current smartphone kings, the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the iPhone 4S.

The Apple iPhone 5 has a height of 4.87 inches, a width of 2.31 inches, and a thickness of 0.3 inch. It also weighs just 3.95 ounces. On top of that, the Apple has given the iPhone 5 a 4-inch screen.

Samsung's Galaxy S3 has a larger 4.8-inch screen but it comes at a price. The Galaxy S3 is 5.38 inches tall, 2.78 inches wide, and 0.34 inches thick and weighs in at 4.7 ounces.

The iPhone 4S, while having the smallest screen at 3.5 inches, still weighs the most at 4.9 ounces and is the thickest at 0.37 inches. The iPhone 4S is 4.5 inches tall and 2.31 inches wide.

Apple states that the Apple iPhone 5 is "the biggest thing to iPhone since iPhone" but still says that the "iPhone 5 is the thinnest and lightest iPhone ever." Even though the phone is taller, it measures the same as the iPhone 4S across, which Apple claims makes it still useable with only one hand.

It will also be the first 4G LTE iPhone. The iPhone 5 comes with the new A6 chip that Apple claims is twice as fast as the previous A5 chip. It will be running Apple's iOS 6 with new features such as an improved Siri, Apple Maps, and Facebook integration.

The iPhone 5 will also introduce the new 9-pin 'Lightning' dock that will replace the 30-pin docks of older Apple mobile devices. A set of new, redesigned earbuds will also come with the iPhone 5.

Pre-orders will begin at 3:00 a.m. EDT on Friday, September 14, with an in-store launch date of September 21. It will be carried by AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint. Cricket Wireless and C Spire Wireless will get their iPhone 5s a week later, on September 28.

The iPhone 5 will start at $199 for the 16GB model and jump to $299 for the 32GB version. The 64GB model can be purchased for $399. All of these prices are with standard two-year contracts.
