Are you planning to buy an Apple Watch? Then you probably need to start saving as it has been reported earlier that the price of the Apple Watch will start at $350. But how much does an 18-karat gold Apple Watch costs?

According to a report by Mac Rumors, the 18-Karat Gold Apple Watch could be sold for $1,200. But a French blog iGen puts it in to a higher price.

It estimates that the 18-Karat Gold Apple Watch would range between $4,000 and $5,000. Yes, you heard it right! Between $4,000 and $5,000!

For comparison, Mashable listed other Apple products you can buy with $5,000. Mashable said that with $5,000 in hand, you can now buy a new iMac with Retina 5k display, or one new iMac with Retina 5k display and another iPad Air 2, or at least 10 iPad Airs!

Time magazine said that luxury watches with 18karat gold usually starts at $10,000 but it noted that the Apple Watch 18 karat gold watch would probably use less gold to make the price lower. It also revealed that an ounce of 18 karat gold costs around $858.

If the $5,000 watch really is true, Time magazine noted, then it would be indeed the "most expensive" device from Apple.

Time added that this move shows which Apple's target market is -- "those people who would spend on a watch roughly what others spent on a college degree."

Apple has not released any statement or comment about this but Mashable said that iGen's report cited unnamed "Apple sources."

There are at least three kinds of Apple Watch: the Apple Watch collection, Apple Watch Sport collection, and Apple Watch Edition collection.

Apple said that the Apple Watch collection uses "highly polished stainless steel and space black stainless steel cases" with a display "protected by sapphire crystal." Buyers can choose from three leather bands -- a link bracelet, a Milanese loop, and a band made from fluoroelastomer.

Meanwhile, the Sport collection has cases made from "lightweight anodized aluminum" which may come in silver and space gray colors. Ion-X glass protects the display and there are five colors for the band.

The Edition collection, Apple said, has an 18-karat gold case. It added that "metallurgists have developed [this] to be up to twice as hard as standard gold." Like the Apple Watch collection, the Edition collection's display is also protected by sapphire crystal.

Buyers of the Edition collection can choose from these five kinds -- 38 mm 18-karat yellow gold case with bright red modern buckle, 38 mm 18-karat rose gold case with white sport band, 38 mm 18-karat rose gold case with rose gray modern buckle, 42 mm 18-karat yellow gold case with black sport band, and 42 mm 18-karat yellow gold case with midnight blue classic buckle.

The Apple Watch was unveiled by Apple in September. It will be available early 2015.
