Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass have denied the existence of another "Bourne" movie for ages, but apparently, there is talk about Universal Studios bringing back the story on screen.

Both Damon and Greengrass have laid out their cards when it comes to their return to the franchise, as Den of Geek reported, with Greengrass making it clear in previous reports that he'd taken the "Bourne" story as far as he could with "The Bourne Supremancy" and "The Bourne Ultimatum." Damon has also refused to reprise the iconic role if Greengrass won't helm the film.

They seemed to have changed their minds, though.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Damon and Greengrass will not only be starring and directing the film, respectively, but that the latter will also be penning the screenplay, which is a first for him, as far as the "Bourne" trilogy is concerned.

Details are currently scarce, but according to Deadline, Universal is set to begin shooting early in 2015 to make it to a 2016 release date, which was already reserved for what was supposed to be the "Bourne Legacy" sequel (to be directed by Justin Lin).

In a report by Screen Rant, speculations include developing the "Bourne Legacy" sequel, which will probably team up Jeremy Renner as Aaron Cross with Damon's iconic Bourne. The films are to be done in a way to broaden the franchise, with the studio building up a shared "Bourne" universe, with a possibility of crossovers between Damon and Renner.

However, with a new "Bourne" film in Jason Bourne's cannon story, Slashfilm confirmed that Renner's will be released after Damon's iconic character gets his comeback. Den of Geek translates this as the next Aaron Cross story to debut in 2017 or 2018.

What will "Bourne 5" be about? No specifics have been released yet, but Damon did say, as stated in Screenrant, that as long as the story continued in a reasonable fashion, he will be up to playing Jason Bourne again.

Reports say "Bourne 5" with Damon is set to be released on July 15, 2016, while the "Bourne Legacy" sequel will come in later.

A new Bourne film will be advantageous to the studio, considering that the last of Damon's, "The Bourne Ultimatum," netted almost $500 million in 2007, while Renner's "Bourne Legacy" totaled nearly $300 million.

What do you think of Damon's comeback for the Bourne series? Should the producers concentrate on the "Legacy" sequel instead?
