Congratulations are in order! "American Idol" alum and country superstar Carrie Underwood announced on Monday that she and her ice hockey player husband are expecting. MTV News said the singer made the announcement in time for Labor Day with an adorably photo of her dogs.

She wrote, "In honor of ‘Labor' Day...Ace & Penny would like to make an announcement. Their parents couldn't be happier!"

Although husband Mike Fisher is not in the photo, Underwood made sure that she got the message across with the help of her two dogs. Both of the dogs wore statement shirts that read, "I'm going to be a big brother/sister." Underwood had the male one close to her chest while the other dog rests lazily on her lap as she stares at the camera.

The announcement was also confirmed by her publicist. The publicist said that the couple are expecting their child in the spring, the Huffington Post said.

Although Underwood did not show obvious signs of her pregnancy, it is safe to assume that she is in the early trimester and that the couple themselves have yet to know the gender of the unborn child. On the other hand, could Fisher's idea for a baby name an indicator of the baby's real gender?

Retweeting his wife's post, the new dad-to-be also shared his thoughts about baby names. He wrote, "We haven't picked names yet but it's looking like Fly is gonna fly. #boyorgirl #flyfisher"

This would be the first child for both Underwood and Fisher. Meeting at one of her concerts in Toronto back in 2008, the couple got married in 2010, MTV News said. The 31-year-old was the winner of "American Idol," and went on to sell more than 15 million albums all over the world, HuffPost said. She could be considered one of the most successful "Idol" winners, having won the Academy of Country Music's Entertainer of the Year award twice. We would be expecting a heavily-pregnant Underwood at the upcoming Country Music Association Awards this November, of which she would be co-hosting with Brad Paisley.

Meanwhile, HuffPost said her 34-year-old husband, who plays for the Nashville Predators, is sidelined for the upcoming ice hockey season due to a ruptured left Achilles tendon.

Early in their marriage, Underwood was less than thrilled about having kids. In a 2012 interview with ABC News, Underwood talked about having kids at the prime of her career and said, "To be honest, one day I'm absolutely fine and happy and, you know, start legitimately thinking about the idea of having kids, and the other day, I'm like ‘oh gosh, no, no, what?' I can barely keep my own schedule straight. Right now in my life, I'm smart enough to know that I'm a selfish person right now, and I can be, and that's OK. There's nothing wrong with that. At least I recognize it. That's a big step. It's like moving away from home. It's really scary until you do it and then you figure it out."
