The Miley Cyrus we saw Sunday night at the 2014 MTV VMAs is quite a far cry from the one we saw last year. Instead of making mouths gape open in shock with her tongue-in-cheek twerking antics, she had "stunned us by revealing yet another iteration of Miley - a grown-up Miley who shocked VMA viewers by bringing a formerly homeless teen as her VMA date and creating one of the most emotional moments of the night," as MTV puts it.

"Miley turned up in simple (by-her-standards) black leather, preferring to put the focus on her words and her music instead of her antics," the music news source noted.

"I can bring that body, I can bring that wrecking ball, but I can't bring that ass. Not that Anaconda. I've retired [from twerking], yeah ... This [next] record might take me five years. I don't know. I'm just going to work on it until I'm done," she said during an interview at the annual event.

However, a recent update appeared to prove that the "Wrecking Ball" singer still remains a controversy magnet, although this time, it looks like this was "unintentional."

"Court records show 22-year-old Jesse Helt was arrested on charges of criminal mischief and criminal trespass in 2010 when he was 18 years old," Mashable reported. "The arrest warrant was issued in November 2011 after he violated probation. Helt moved to Los Angeles sometime after the arrest and tried to find work as a model."

Jesse is the homeless man who served as Miley's date at the MTV VMAs. He was also given the privilege of accepting the pop star's award on her behalf, intoning a prepared speech about homeless youth on stage and on national TV.

According to The Daily Mail, the 22-year-old mentioned looking forward to seeing his mom, as he was reportedly set to go home soon. However, due to charges of "burglary, criminal mischief in the third degree and criminal trespass in the 1st degree," authorities will be arresting him as soon as he arrives in Oregon, his home state. The publication noted that the burglary charge was later dismissed.

Jesse was included in Polk County's Most Wanted List in February 2012, added The Daily Mail. He has been "accused of using marijuana, not providing a urine sample, failing to report to his probation officer, not abiding by the set curfew and not completing community service as mandated."

"He still has an outstanding warrant. If he's contacted by the police in Oregon he would be arrested," Jon Troike, Local Judicial Services Specialist, was quoted as saying.

On Monday night, Jesse reportedly got on the 7:50 p.m. Alaska Airlines flight from Los Angeles International Airport using the $360 economy ticket that Miley paid for him.

"He was wearing scruffy black jeans, trainers and a black hoodie and had no luggage with him other than a small carry-on sports bag and a skate-board, which he clutched under his arm," said the British publication, whose reporter was on the same flight as him. "He left the aeroplane behind other passengers and there were no family or friends to greet him as he walked through the airport."

He was last seen taking a taxi "for the 45-mile journey back home to Salem, south of Portland."

There is no update yet as to whether the young man has been arrested by Oregon authorities.
