The tech giant has been rumored to release a bigger and cheaper next generation iPhone. Here are a few reasons why Apple might just do so.

One of the reasons why Apple might be releasing an iPhone 6 with a larger screen but a lower price tag is that the combo is specifically what consumers want. In a leaked set of Apple slides, the company has found out that the "strongest demand" is coming from "less expensive and larger screen smartphones."

The iPhone-maker has also learned that consumers want what they don't have. As the International Business Times notes, the realization comes after noticing that the majority of growth in the smartphone market is coming from devices with screens bigger than 4 inches and a price tag under $300.

Apparently, consumers are not the only strong driving force behind a possible bigger and cheaper iPhone 6. Competitors, which have released smartphones way bigger than the current-gen iPhone's screen size, are also seemingly pushing Apple to entertain the idea.

According to Tech Radar, the closest rivals of the iPhone 6 include the HTC One (M8) which comes in at 5 inches in screen size with a $650 SIM-free price tag. Another noteworthy competition is the Sony Xperia Z2 which is allegedly coming out sometime this year with a 5.2-inch IPS LCD Triluminos display. And of course, there's iPhone's touted rival, the Samsung Galaxy S5, with a 5.1-inch display and a $650+ SIM-free price tag.

Apple Insider notes that a lot of iPhone users also experience a so-called "large-screen envy" as a result of Android users enjoying larger-sized displays on their smartphones. Quoting analyst Brian Marshall of ISI Group, the outlet reports that a larger iPhone will drive significant upgrades among existing iPhone users, and would also convert a large number of Android users to Apple's platform.

Finally, releasing a bigger and cheaper iPhone 6 might just reaccelerate the company's growth rate. As noted by Tech Radar, the leaked Apple slides show that the iPhone's growth rates have slowed quarter after quarter. Industry analyst Marshall, thru Apple Insider, predicts that the iPhone 6 could drive $3.00 in additional earnings per share, feeding on a "pent-up demand" for a larger Apple smartphone.

Apple has not yet made any official announcement regarding the iPhone 6 but rumors are saying that the new flagship device may be out anytime this year with major revision and premium pricing, notes Tech Radar.
