Democrats will resort to a measure that forces Republican legislators to call for a vote on a law project regarding immigration reform in the United States House of Representatives.

Resorting to a legal measure called "discharge petition", Democrats Nancy Pelosi of California and Joe García of Florida will seek that the Speaker of the House of Representatives, John Boehner, a Republican from Ohio, submit law project HR15 to a vote; presented on October 2013 and which has the approval of 100 Democrats and is similar to the immigration reform law project approved by the Senate last June.

Anonymous sources quoted by newspaper La Opinión point out that the project has the support of at least 218 votes and cosponsors including Republicans from California and Florida and seeks the support of at least 30 Republicans in the House of Representatives.

In an interview with Univisión, Joe García assured he has the support of almost 200 votes, and seeks to pressure Boehner to reach the 218 votes necessary to approve immigration reform.

Project HR15 is based on project S744 approved by the Senate in mid-2013 which includes a way to citizenship for the more than 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the United States.

Nancy Pelosi and Joe García will seek to resort to the rarely used measure on Wednesday, March 26 to get the 218 votes needed to approve a law.

Project HR15 includes an amendment on security, recommending permanent supervision for five years in the charge of an independent commission for the use of funds destined for the Border Patrol, estimated to be $30 million dollars.
