Is Johnny Depp slated to play Dr. Strange? According to Latino Review, the actor could potentially take on the iconic role.

Latino Review claims that a source told the site that Depp had a meeting with Marvel to get involved with the movie.

"The 50-year-old actor is a comic book fan, and is said to be very interested in jumping onto the Marvel machine," reported Latino Review.

Latino Review also noted that Depp has a terrific relationship with Disney, the company that owns Marvel. Depp has played Captain Jack Sparrow in the company's "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise and also recently starred as Tonto in "The Lone Ranger." He also appeared in "Alice in Wonderland," which was also produced by Disney.

Marvel has stated that it will release the Dr. Strange film during Phase 3 of the "Avengers," meaning that it would likely hit theaters in 2016.

In order for him to take over the role, Disney would need to maneuver Depp's busy schedule as he is slated to star in a fifth "Pirates" movie and yet another "Alice in Wonderland" pic.

Despite the poor box office reception for "Lone Ranger," Depp continues to be a lucrative figure in Hollywood. He has been in eight movies that have topped the $100 million mark; four of those films are from the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise. He is slated to star in "Transcendence," which is directed by "Dark Knight" cinematographer Wally Pfister. That film is also likely to be a big box office hit.
