Winning "Favorite On-Screen Chemistry" at the People's Choice Awards 2014 is proof that 'The Vampire Diaries' stars Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev have made it to the list of the hottest couples in Hollywood, too bad they've broken up. Or have they?

News of their recent breakup jolted their fans, but speculations about the two getting back together started after Ian planted that big kiss on Nina's cheek during the 2014 PCAs.

The couple ended their relationship in 2013, but the couple continued to sizzle on-screen. While receiving the prestigious "Favorite On-Screen Chemistry" award, the two stars joked about their breakup.

Ian told the audience, "We started dating in real life."

Nina added, "And then we broke up in real life,"

"And yet our characters are still dating on the show," continued Ian.

Nina then joked, "It's a good thing it's not awkward!" then proceeded on pretending to be awkward with her ex-- before continuing, "Well, it's a good thing we have chemistry!"

The pair ended their speech with Ian planting a big kiss on his ex-girlfriend's cheek, which drove the fans wild. (Watch the video below)

The former couple got together again, along with Nina's best friend Julianne Hough, to celebrate Nina's 25th birthday last January 9. A candid shot of Nina and Ian cheek to cheek during her birthday added more speculation on their relationship status.

Ian's tweet of love did nothing to placate it either, when he tweeted, "Happy Birthday @ninadobrev !!! The world loves you! We all do;) Enjoy the moment, enjoy the day, enjoy the year!"

According to PopSugar, Ian and Nina decided to call their relationship quits mid-2013, after three years of dating, but said that they would "remain best friends."

But all the affection they still seem to have for each other lead fans to think they just might be getting back together. Neither stars nor their reps have confirmed their  reunion.
