Everton manager Roberto Martinez has stated that he will not transfer Leighton Baines or Ross Barkley during the January window.

Rumors have noted that Manchester United was particularly interested in the 20-year-old Barkley and was willing to offer up to 50 million pounds for his services.

"Fifty million? We wouldn't let anyone out on loan in January. We are in a strong position financially," insisted Martinez, according to ESPN. "When you have to bring in money, then it can be a real difficult position as you can be anxious and frustrated.

"When you have to make financial decisions the squad will not benefit but when you make football decisions then you are in a strong position," he said. "If we can, we are going to add a couple of new faces and make sure we are stronger when the window closes."

Barkley is signed with the team until 2016 and has scored three goals thus far this season. Martinez sees him as a major piece moving forward and is not interested in the idea of moving him at the moment.

"He's got a long-term contract," Martinez said. "His role in the team has changed, and over the first half of the season, it has been a real joy to see him progress."

Meanwhile, Baines is 29 years old and has garnered a lot of attention from teams looking for a strong defensive presence. United had attempted to buy Baines during the summer alongside Marouane Fellaini, but only wound up with the Belgian star for a high price.
