Steve McQueen's "12 Years a Slave" has topped the London Film Critics' nominations.

The film obtained eight nominations including Best Picture, Best Director for Steve McQueen, Best Actor for Chiwetel Ejiofor, Best Supporting Actor for Michael Fassbender, Best Supporting Actress for Lupita Nyong'o and Best Screenplay. Fassbender and Ejiofor were also nominated for Best British Actor while Sean Bobbit was nominated for Best Cinematography.

"Philomena" followed with five nominations including Best British Film, Best Actress for Judi Dench, Best Screenplay, and Best British Actor for Steve Coogan. Dench was also recognized in the Best British Actress category.

Meanwhile, "Blue Jasmine" and "The Wolf of Wall Street" obtained four nods apiece including Best Picture.

The other Best Pictures included "Blue is the Warmest Color," "Frances Ha," "Gravity," "The Grest Beauty," "Her," "Inside Llewyn Davis," and "Nebraska."

Among the actors nominated include Leonardo DiCaprio ("The Wolf of Wall Street"), Bruce Dern ("Nebraska"), Michael Douglass ("Behind the Candelabra"), Barkhad Abdi ("Captain Phillips,"), and Tom Hanks ("Saving Mr. Banks").

Others included Adele Exarchopoulos ("Blue is the Warmest Color"), Greta Gerwig ("Frances Ha"), Christian Bale ("American Hustle," "Out of Furnace"), Saoirse Ronan ("Byzantium," "The Host," "How I Live Now"), and Jared Leto ("Dallas Buyers Club").

The Foreign Films nominated were "Blue Is the Warmest Colour, "Caesar Must Die," "Gloria," "The Great Beauty,"
and "A Hijacking."

The London Film Critics are important as most of the time the association previews how the British Academy Awards will vote. Previous winners include "The Artist," "The Social Network," "A Prophet," "The Wrestler," and "No Country For Old Men."
