Apple Inc. saw a minor slip in its mobile and tablet operating system market share, and Google Android took advantage of it.

According to NetMarketShare, Apple's iOS platform accounted for 55.17 percent of the mobile and tablet operating system market share despite tripping by 0.22 percentage points. Apple's mobile and tablet platform easily held the top position for another month, ahead of its second-place challenger by 21.28 percent points.

Google's Android platform maintained second place while increasing its market share by 3.31 percentage points. Despite the increase, Android was far from matching iOS. Android finished November with 33.89 percent of the market share, which is up from the 30.58 percent in October.

According to NetMarketShare, the Android 4.1 platform was the most-utilized Google mobile and tablet operating system during November with 13.55 percent, behind the figures for iPads and iPhones. The Android 4.0 version placed second with 6.13 percent, narrowly ahead of Android 2.3's 5.8 percent.

Java ME accounted for third place with 4.49 percent of the mobile and tablet market share, which was ahead of the 3.12 percent for the Symbian platform.

BlackBerry rounded up the top five mobile and tablet platforms with 1.65 percent. BlackBerry's November figures were a drop of 0.9 percentage points from November's 2.55 percent.

Amazon's Kindle and Microsoft's Windows Phone platforms improved their market share figures. Kindle finished ahead of Windows Phone for another month with 0.85 percent; the Microsoft platform scored 0.67 percent. In October, Kindle represented 0.78 percent of the market share while Windows Phone garnered 0.5 percent, which was last place provided by NetMarketShare.
