Microsoft's Windows Phone platform saw its best smartphone operating system market share figures in Germany based on new data released for the three months ending in October this year.

According to Kantar Worldpanel, Windows Phone encountered the highest market share increase among its rivals, such as Google Android, Apple's iOS and BlackBerry.

The Microsoft smartphone operating system increased by 4 percentage points when comparing the three month period ending in October 2013 and the same timeframe last year.

Windows Phone concluded October 2013 with 6.3 percent of the market share, which is up from the 2.3 percent last year.

Despite the increase for Windows Phone, it was nowhere near matching Android or iOS.

While Windows Phone held at third place, iOS maintained second place despite falling by 1.6 percentage points. Apple's smartphone operating system represented 13.8 percent of the market share during the three months ending in October this year, which is down from the 15.4 percent last year.

Google's mobile operating system easily held the throne at first place while increasing its market share by 1.9 percentage points. Android represented 77.5 percent of the market share in Germany, which is up from the 75.6 percent during the three months ending in October last year.

BlackBerry ranked fourth, based on Kantar Worldpanel's data. BlackBerry accounted for 0.7 percent of the smartphone operating system market share, which is 1.3 percentage points down form the 2 percent it garnered last year.
