For the original Surface with Windows 8 Pro, the tablet feature updates vary by the operating system installed on each device.

If the Surface with Windows 8 Pro sports the Windows 8.0 operating system, the software update consists of support of the Japanese Touch Cover 2 and Type Cover 2.

For the Surface with Windows 8 Pro with Windows 8.1, the software update includes an improvement of the LifeCam driver to enhance TrueColor fidelity. Also, an update to the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth drivers is set to improve wireless display performance and network stability.

The Surface 2 tablet has six updates.

For the second-generation Surface 2, the software update includes performance improvements for all Touch Cover and Type Covers. According to Microsoft, the update includes battery, camera and audio improvements. Regarding the audio improvements, the update affects when switching to speaker playback following disconnecting a headset.

Finally, similar to the Surface with Windows 8 Pro tablet update, the Surface 2 update has enhancements to the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi drivers for better wireless display performance.

The Surface Pro 2 tablet has no updates for November.

To manually install the update, the tablet owner can swipe to the right edge of the screen and tap "Settings." The tablet owner should then tap "Change PC settings" and then "Update and recovery." "Check new" should be tapped or clicked next, and the Surface tablet will show "View details" if the update is available. Finally, the user can click "Install."

The Surface tablet is likely to restart after installing the update.
