Half-Life 3's delay has become a running joke among gamers, and now it looks as though it will not be exclusive to SteamOS whenever it is released. Valve designer Greg Coomer explained to Gamespot that Valve is not the sort of company that would make Half-Life 3 or any blockbuster game exclusive to just their platforms.

"You won't see an exclusive killer app for SteamOS from us. We're not going to be doing that kind of thing," Coomer told Gamespot.

Another Valve employee, Anna Sweet, echoed this sentiment when interviewed by IGN about the new operating system:

"Whenever we talk to third-party partners, we encourage them to put their games in as many places as possible, including not on our platforms...We think that customers are everywhere, and they want to put their games wherever customers are. That would go against our whole philosophy, to launch something that's exclusive to SteamOS or Steam machines."

Presumably, this means that Half-Life 3 will not only appear on the upcoming Valve console, but also on the PC. However, it does leave the possibility open that the game could come to other platforms such as the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.

While it may be years until Half-Life 3 is launched, Steam users can take comfort by having a spending spree during the upcoming Steam Autumn sale. If a new alleged leak from Reddit is to be believed, the upcoming sale will begin on Wednesday, Nov. 27 and end on Tuesday, Dec. 3.

This leak has not been confirmed by Valve, so it may be fake, but Steam users should be on the lookout anyway around that time for the epic annual sale the digital distribution platform has around the holiday season. Much like the Steam Summer sale earlier this year, players can expect massive discounts both on blockbuster titles and the hottest downloadable indie games on the platform. It will be interesting to see what games will become available in the sale, and what sort of crazy offers the company will offer gamers during that time.
