With the new position, Ahrendts will be involved in the strategic direction, operation, and expansion of Apple's retail and online stores.

"I am thrilled that Angela will be joining our team," said Cook. "She shares our values and our focus on innovation, and she places the same strong emphasis as we do on the customer experience. She has shown herself to be an extraordinary leader throughout her career and has a proven track record."

Ahrendts will officially start with the Cupertino-based company in the spring of 2014 in order to finish business with Burberry. Her previous career experience includes Executive Vice President at Liz Claiborne Inc. and President of Donna Karan International.

"I am profoundly honored to join Apple in this newly created position next year, and very much look forward to working with the global teams to further enrich the consumer experience on and offline," said Ahrendts. "I have always admired the innovation and impact Apple products and services have on people's lives and hope in some small way I can help contribute to the company's continued success and leadership in changing the world."

The addition of Ahrendts comes as Apple prepares an event for Oct. 22.

As Latinos Post reported, Apple has sent invitations to an Oct. 22 event at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, Calif. The purpose of the event is unknown, but it has been speculated to be the launching pad for the iPad mini 2, iPad 5, and additional Mac-related products.

No word if Ahrendts will be in attendance for the event.
