Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard are finally husband and wife. The long-time couple tied the knot on Thursday, Oct. 16 in a simple ceremony at the Beverly Hills County Clerk's Office, US Weekly confirms.

The "House of Lies" actress, 32, and the "Parenthood" actor, 38, came to the court house to obtain a marriage license, but took up a court employee's offer to marry them right then and there in a nearby courtroom.

The pair have been engaged since 2009, but vowed not to marry until the federal same-sex marriage ban was overturned.

"I don't feel appropriate taking advantage of a right that's denied to my [gay and lesbian] friends," Bell said in August 2012. "It's just kind of rude to invite everyone to a party for a rite not everyone can hold."

"We're not having a wedding," Bell continued. "It's not a desire of either of ours to have any sort of day of celebration for us. I feel like we get enough attention in our daily lives and we just want something sort of private that involves pen and paper." And that is exactly what they did.

When the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the Defense of Marriage Act this past June--and Proposition 8 was overturned in California-- Bell proposed to Shepard via Twitter.

"@daxshepard1 will you marry me? Xo #marriageequality #loveislove," she wrote.

Shepard responded, "Let's bring my big, gay marriage to [Kristen] to Life!!!"

The couple has a daughter, Lincoln, who is seven months.

Bell has called motherhood "actually better than I expected . . . It's pretty wonderful."
