Meeting a mother has never been so exciting. With the ninth and final season of “How I Met Your Mother” well underway, fans have had the pleasure of laying eyes on the Mother they’ve been waiting eight years to meet. However, mystery still looms. It’s unclear how she’ll factor into Barney and Robin’s wedding, if at all, and how she’ll wind up with Ted, once again, if at all. Wild speculations have been running rampant, but as the season moves forward, the puzzle is taking shape piece by piece.

One theory in particular that has gained traction in recent weeks postulates that the Mother has been dead all along and that the entire series is a detailed account of Ted’s past that he's been sharing with his future children. Wouldn’t that be a shame? There is evidence that supports the theory, like creator Carter Bays’ description of the ending as “heartbreaking and sweet and wonderful,” or the fact that Future Ted never once references his wife, aka the Mother, in present tense, only the past. But in the end, the theory is too dark. It falls too far from the “How I Met Your Mother” tree. While we’ll have to wait for the series finale to be sure, let’s put that theory to rest and move forward with a more positive outlook.

In more current news, it looks like Barney’s parents will be crashing the wedding sooner than originally anticipated. According to E! News, John Lithgow, who plays Barney’s father, will make his first Season 9 appearance in a November episode.

“I’m just so delighted to be included in their last season,” Lithgow said. “I haven’t received the script just yet but whatever they ask me to do.” Lithgow will be joined by Francis Conroy who plays Barney’s mother, marking the first time we see Barney’s parents together.

“How I Met Your Mother” airs Monday nights on CBS.
