Young love is never without its follies. There are ups and downs, trials and tribulations. Whatever you want to call it, it’s never seamless and easy. Throughout the fifth season of “NCIS: LA,” fans have been eager to see detective Deeks and Kensi solidify their relationship. The love is there, it’s just a matter of how it will flourish throughout the coming episodes, and unfortunately things don’t look too promising. But hey, that’s love.

Earlier this week, executive producer Shane Brennan told TVLine that “there’s quite a shocking moment in Episode 10 that throws everything awry, and then for the next eight or so episodes Kensi and Deeks’ relationship is in some serious trouble.”

Whether the two events are correlated are not, it’s curious that Episode 10 will introduce a new “physically capable” American female agent and two Middle Eastern agents. It could be coincidence, but if Kensi takes a dangerous mission in the Middle East or sparks fly between Deeks and the new agent, their relationship could take a serious hit.

Brennan then added that there’s “a big, big shock around Episode 18, for both of them, that affects their relationship again.”

Fans have to wonder if these shocks hint at a Kensi pregnancy, whose portrayer, Daniela Ruah, is pregnant in real-life. It would certainly be convenient, but Brennan has other plans. “I will definitely and utterly and totally rule that out. The pregnancy does not play into their storyline at all. Let’s put that thought/rumor/suggestion to rest.”

“We won’t be referencing the fact that Dani is pregnant on the show at all,” he said in a separate interview with Entertainment Weekly. “And through the magic of television and with great editing and acting and great storylines, the audience won’t even know she’s pregnant.”

“NCIS: LA” airs Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. on CBS.
