“Sons of Anarchy” have outdone themselves. Currently in its sixth season, ratings have never been higher. Viewers can’t get enough of the ear splitting cries of revving engines, the renegade violence and the inter club debauchery. As the death toll rises, things continue to get grittier, and this week’s episode was no exception.

For those of you still reeling from Gemma’s visit with Clay in the slammer, where two guards forced her to have sex with Clay so they could watch, director Gwyneth Horder-Payton offers some closure.

“The whole situation was creepy enough,” Horder-Payton told Entertainment Weekly. “In the end, it’s just so sad because of the intimacy they once had, and that they’re now having it again, in a way, but only because they’re so sorry that this has to happen. There’s a certain empathy and respect for each other in that moment, even though the relationship is over… It was difficult. I cried a lot while I was directing. It was awful.”

Although the aftershock of such events will linger through next week, the upcoming episode will pack even more punches, so prepare yourselves. The episode, titled “Salvage,” will throw Jax into a bloody battle with the Irish Kings. More death. What a surprise.

A recent sneak peek features the entire club as they set aside their boiling frustrations with one another now that a real threat looms on the horizon. While the club’s future of selling guns remains up in the air, the Irish make it impossible for them to get down to brass tax. It’s time to fight and seek revenge for the bomb that destroyed their clubhouse. Meanwhile, Tara decides that she doesn’t want Abel and Thomas to stay with Gemma in Charming if she’s shipped off to prison for her role in the death of Lee Toric’s sister. “Sons of Anarchy” airs Tuesday nights on FX.
