Wednesday marks the big day. No longer will we have to defend ourselves from the dangers of lurking evil. One of the world’s most beloved and certainly best looking band of superheroes is returning to television for its second season. Stephen Amell will return to the hit series “Arrow” as Oliver, aka The Green Arrow, on Wednesday night, October 9, as the season’s biggest series begin to unfold. So we can all leave our pepper spray at home. The world just got a little safer.

But Amell and the gang will have their hands full, TVLine reports. Based on a series of new photos, Oliver’s ex Laurel Lance (Kate Cassidy) has made it her mission to “bring down the Arrow,” said showrunner Andrew Kreisberg. Season 2 picks up two months after the undertaking that turned Starling City upside down.

“Laurel’s joined the district attorney’s office … now that CNRI has been destroyed,” Kreisberg said. “Her mission at the top of the season is to bring down the Arrow.”

Luckily they’ll have some help upon the arrival of The Flash’s alter ego Barry Allen, who will make fast friends the heroes. “He has a very easy relationship with Felicity, because Barry’s a forensic scientist,” he said. “He’s young and a little socially awkward, like she is. So there’s a lot of fun with that.”

“He comes to Starling City, and he says to [Felicity], ‘I heard the vigilante saved you. What’s he like?’” Kreisberg said. Being in the hero’s orbit is “definitely going to have an impact… because he’s seen that it’s possible to put on a mask and change the world.”

“For Barry, it’s one of those things where it’s like, ‘Be careful what you wish for,” adds Kreisberg. “In the [DC] comics themselves, Barry was a fan. If you look at Justice League, you have Superman and Aquaman and Wonder Woman…. Then you’ve got Barry Allen, who’s just a guy.”

“Arrow” returns to The CW this Wednesday, October 9.
