FIFA will not reveal during which season the World Cup will be held in 2022. However, the federation confirmed that Qatar would continue to be the location for the tournament.

FIFA was expected to make a final decision on what time period the tournament would be held in 2022, but according to a source from the London's Evening Standard, FIFA has confirmed that the decision will have to wait.

"It was always media hype to expect the executive to come to such a decision this week without looking at all the consequences. The World Cup is nine years away and there is no need to rush to make a decision," said the source, according to ESPN. "Indeed, the agenda for the meeting merely says we should 'discuss' the Qatar World Cup not whether we should move it. Indeed, it is at the moment such low priority that it is item 25 in a 27-point agenda. So it is not even likely to be discussed today."

The 2022 World Cup has created a tremendous amount of controversy because FIFA wants to move it from the usual summer window to another time period to account for the region's weather. The governing body has noted that it hopes to play the tournament during the fall or winter months; this had caused a great deal of controversy with European leagues that are in the midst of their seasons during the fall and winter.

Many wondered whether FIFA would reconsider moving the tournament to another venue, but FIFA spokesman Walter De Gregorio has confirmed that Qatar will continue to be the host.

"No doubt," he said, according to ESPNFC. "What is open to question is if we play in winter, and if so is it November, December, January, I don't know...But there is no doubt we will play in Qatar."
