Manchester City will look to prove its worth when it takes on the best club in the World on Wednesday.

The season has not been an easy ride for the English club; Manchester City has already dropped points against two sides that it was expected to defeat. First, the club lost Cardiff City and most recently Aston Villa proved to be too challenging. The losses were all the more baffling considering the 4-1 win City managed against Manchester United just a week earlier.

Now the club will take on Bayern Munich, a team coming off a treble season; Munich has yet to lose a match this season.

"Last season, Bayern Munich were the team that played the best football and they became European champions -- so if you beat them, people on the outside will notice," said City's Fernandinho, according to the Telegraph . "It would be a huge statement to the football world if we could beat the best team in Europe, one of the best teams in the world. The projection would be much higher than beating United. That is why a win for us would be so important."

City opened its tournament with a 3-0 win over Viktoria Plzen; its first victory in Europe in two years. However, Munich also won its opener 3-0 against CSKA Moscow and heads into the game as the clear favorite.

City will be home and could look to use the home crowd to its advantage; City managed to gain two draws at home against Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund in last season's tournament.

Prediction: Munich wins 1-0.
