Political scandals, in this day and age, are a dime a dozen. So naturally they permeate all realms of our lives. They’re seen in headlines, in our daily lives, movies, books and television. The appropriately named series “Scandal” returns for its third season this fall and a brand new poster proves that the aftershock of last season’s bombshell finale will shape the Season 3.

Olivia’s affair with the president is now public. The media is have hayday. In the poster, the entire cast stands in a dusty room lined with stacks upon stacks of newspapers. But the defamatory headlines aren’t what’s most revealing about the photo. If you’ll notice, Mellie glares at her husband while he watches Olivia. Huck eyeballs Quinn while David reads Esquire. The various glances can be interpreted a million different ways, but not to worry, it will all become clear upon the show’s return.

Season 3 promises to bring new characters, new secrets and new scandals that are sure to rock the capitol. Last season’s central scandal revolved around the presidents affair, and now that it’s out in the open, new issues and conniving plots are sure to arise.

In light of the adultery presented on the show, creator Shonda Rhimes recently urged fans not to mistake the storyline as a ringing endorsement for illicit liaisons. "I don't feel like we're making adultery acceptable. We weren't setting out to make adultery OK," Rhimes said. "To me it's not about adultery or not adultery. We're telling the story of these two characters who very specifically have this kind of relationship."

"[However], I like the fact that everybody feels this big debate. That's fantastic, because that's the point," she added. "We're not giving a judgement on it one way or the other."

"Scandal," along with more appropriate adultery squabble, will return to ABC for its third season on Thursday, October 3.
