The Moto X has been a big success for Motorola, and users have flocked to the device, which allows users to create their own smartphone and chose its color, among other options. Now, it looks as though Motorola is using the ideas behind the Moto X and may try to apply them to other devices, such as a tablet.

Dennis Woodside, CEO of Motorola, spoke to Engadget and revealed that the company is working on a tablet, but did not give specific details about the project. Considering the success that Motorola has enjoyed with the Moto X, it is within the realm of possibility that the company is considering offering a Moto X-style tablet that lets users design and customize their tablet on the MotoMaker website, and have the device made and shipped from the company's plant in Texas. Woodside stated that the company is taking "some of the design cues, as well as technologies, from the Moto X." This statement indicates that the company is considering the Moto X plan for some other future devices, and seems to indicate Motorola is putting their money behind the Moto X and the customization market.

Another possible option for Motorola and a successor to the Moto X may be a phablet version of the smartphone. The Moto X is a rather small device designed for use in one hand, so a phablet would be the next logical step for the device rather than creating a mini version. A Moto X phablet would take all the advantages of a tablet and allow users to create their own customized device using the MotorMaker website.

Android Community is also reporting that the follow up to the Moto X may in fact be a budget version of the smartphone. Rumors have surfaced concerning a so-called Motorola DVX, which would be a lower-priced version of the $199 (with a two year contract) Moto X. New colored back plates showed up in leaked photos around the time of an FCC filing from Motorola for the Motorola DVX, so that may be the direction that the company is choosing.

Nonetheless, the Moto X is still in the early stages of release, and of the service providers who carry the phone (AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile and U.S Cellular) only AT&T offers the full range of customization options to customers. Before any sort of follow up to the Moto X, users should expect announcements for the device getting the full customization treatment on service providers before a new device is announced.
