In time for the launch of "Pokémon X and Y," Nintendo has announced the launch of the Nintendo 2DS console.

As Latinos Post reported, the Nintendo 2DS handset console will play the same games as the Nintendo 3DS and select Nintendo DS games, but without the 3-D viewing as seen in the Nintendo 3DS and 3DS XL models.

"The handheld is designed to be a introduction console for younger gamers, and instead of folding in half like other DS models the 2DS is one solid piece," reported Latinos Post's Frank Lucci.

According to Bulbapedia, the battery life in the Nintendo 2DS is slightly better than the Nintendo 3DS yet worse than the Nintendo 3DS XL model.
