Reigning US Open winner Andy Murray is all set to begin his much awaited campaign in Flushing Meadows on Wednesday as he takes on Frenchman Michael Llodra on Center Court.

Murray, who had his breakthrough Grand Slam triumph at the same arena a year ago, is out to prove that he is still the man to beat in the tourney despite the presence of Rafael Nadal.

The Scottish-born No.1 is coming off a victory at Wimbledon two months ago, but his failure to advance beyond the quarterfinal round of the Montreal and Cincinnati Masters prompted tennis followers and analysts to put doubt on his chances of defending his US Open title.

Murray defeated Llodra in all three previous meetings, including a four-set victory in the second round of the 2008 U.S. Open Championships and three-set win in the third round of the 2012 Australian Open.

Serena Williams looks to punch her way to the third round when she plays Galina Voskoboeva of Kazakhstan. Serena is fresh from a sensational 6-0, 6-1 win over former French Open champion Francesca Schiavone and is highly expected to go all the way to the championship round.

Meanwhile, her sister, Venus, also nailed a huge win over Wimbledon Open semifinalist Kirsten Flipkens 6-1, 6-2. Williams dominated the Belgian from start to finish, making it her best performance on the tennis court since over a year. Venus is scheduled to face Jie Zheng of China.

Third-seed Agnieszka Radwanska will also play Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor of Spain while her sister Urszula battles 15th-seed Sloane Stephens of the United States.
