A new Pokémon anime special is set to debut in Japan ahead of the worldwide launch of "Pokémon X and Y."

"Pocket Monsters: The Origin" depicts the characters and events from the first-generation video games "Pokémon Red" and "Pokémon Blue/Green."

What makes the anime special different from the current anime series are a few things.

A first change is the characters, which will mainly feature Red and Blue and appearances from Professor Oak, Gym Leader Brock, and then-Elite Four's Lance, to name a few.

A second change in the special is the style of the animation.

It is unknown how long the anime special will be, if it is a one-day event or miniseries.

"Pocket Monsters: The Origin" has been confirmed to air in Japan on Oct. 2. A U.S. release date is currently unknown.

The anime special's debut is 10 days before the launch of the sixth-generation's "Pokémon X and Y," exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS.

In regards to the anime for "Pokémon X and Y," the series based on the Kalos region has been confirmed with Ash Ketchum set to continue his adventures once again. As Latinos Post reported, footage for the upcoming season of the main show saw Ketchum arriving to Kalos via plane with new attire. The trailer then transitions to show the three new starter Pokémon: Fennekin, Chespin, and Froakie. The "Pokémon X and Y" anime series is set to start in Japan on Oct. 17.

U.S. fans could see the new season by early February 2014, although that is based on the current number of days that separate the Japanese and U.S. anime airdates.
