The end is drawing near. Fans may not want it, but Showtime’s longtime serial killer drama “Dexter” is inching closer to its series finale. The show’s final season, it’s eighth, has introduce interesting characters and has slowly moved towards tying all loose ends, including bringing back Dexter’s (Michael C. Hall) murdering ex-girlfriend Hannah (guest star Yvonne Strahovski).

Much to Deb’s (Jennifer Carpenter) dismay, Hannah is back in her and Dexter’s lives and she won’t stop at anything to make sure she’s out of their lives. In the upcoming eighth episode, entitled “Are We There Yet?,” Deb is very vocal to Dex that she wants him to get rid of Hannah in any way possible. Dexter tells her that he’s handling it, but Deb takes matters into her own hands and tells her boss that Hannah is back in Miami.

Meanwhile, it looks like Dexter’s protege Zach (Sam Underwood) may have killed an innocent person, going against Dexter’s own code. In a sneak peak, Dexter can be seen taking a knife to Zack’s neck, possibly doing what he believes he should have done from the beginning.

In other “Dexter” news, the show’s writers and executive producers sat down with Entertainment Weekly to talk about the pressures surrounding the series finale. Showrunner Scott Buck told EW that the writers take care of every episode and that the finale is no different. He added that the only pressure they feel “is any that we put up on ourselves.”

Writer/executive producer Manny Coto added that they felt “very comfortable” about where the show was at. EP Sara Colleton said that the writing staff has “known for a long time how we want to end it so we’ve been able to sit with it, think it through.” She added, “We feel its honest and right for the show.”

“Dexter” S8E8, “Are We There Yet?,” airs on Sunday, August 18 at 9 p.m. on Showtime.
