It's a brutal, unforgiving game. There is no mercy. Once you're out, you're out. There's no return. Titans clash day in and say out in for the sweet taste of victory. While there's no end in sight, the battle rages on. Bodies have been left bloodied and dying along the way, but it's all for a just cause. The stakes are so high that those in contention must submit themselves to the perilous dangerous of warfare, despite the inevitable crushing blows. It's the war of "50 Shades of Grey," and in a recent stroke of fate, one of its mightiest warriors has fallen to blade.

"Vampire Diaries" star Ian Somerhalder, who has long been a top competitor in the "50 Shades" arena, has reportedly been denied the role of Christian Grey. Somerhalder, among Matt Bomer and Henry Cavill, has continually topped fan polls and starred in mock trailers, so his loss comes as a major blow to many members of the "50 Shades" community. But the Somerhalder groupies aren't the only ones torn up inside, the actor himself has expressed his remorse.

After author E. L. James broke the news that he would not land the part of Christian, a member of the press stopped Somerhalder and asked him who would take on the role. "I don't know you, you tell me," he responded, according to X17 Online. When asked who his top pick would be, he sarcastically said "Jim Carrey."

So there you have it. The victory is still for the taking. There's plenty more bodies to be burned and even more blood to be shed. The relentless war will carry on until one man and woman stand side by side, prepared to embark on the next leg of their epic journey. Let the victors be decided soon. Too much carnage has already ravaged the "50 Shades" landscape. Enough is enough.
