Sony's Xperia Z and Xperia ZL are both receiving updates, but not the one that some owners of the phone have been waiting for. Android Community is reporting that both models of the device will be getting updates to their firmware, but the device will remain at Android 4.2.2 and will not be jumping to Android 4.3.

The smartphones recently got updates in June, when the Xperia Z and Xperia XL were both given OTA upgrades to Android 4.2.2. This update is most likely rooted in that update, fixing various bugs and glitches that have arisen since the original jump to 4.2.2. So far there is no definite list of what exactly the update will be attempting to improve or remove, but users are reporting several changes that have come with the update. Users are reporting that since the update boot animations have run smoother, along with home launcher performance. Touch response has also reportedly been improved with the upgrade. The other big fix has been to image and display quality, which has risen with the roll out of the update. Other minor fixes to bugs and glitches have also been taken care of. While none of these improvements have been major, it is a noticeable increase in performance for the devices.

In addition to the this update for the Xperia Z and Xperia XL, Sony is rolling out updates to Android 4.2 for two other Xperia devices, the Xperia XR and the Xperia Tablet Z sometime this month. While some Xperia owners may be impatient waiting for the update to Android 4.3, however considering that the 4.3 version of Android was only just announced and the Xperia Z and ZL only just got version 4.2.2 in June, it will be quite some time until it becomes available.

Keep it here for any more Sony Xperia news as the update rolls out and news about the further updates to 4.2.2 are revealed.
