Television is at its best come winter. It's the perfect time to cozy up next to your sweetheart, light a fire, grab the blanket and enjoy your favorite shows. The weather caters to the experience. So naturally, most shows schedule their seasons to ride out the cold and bitter months. That doesn't mean there isn't quality television during the summer. It's just less abundant. One of the season's hottest shows is now approaching it's halfway point, and while looking ahead toward the finale, it's going to be one wild ride.

This week's episode of "Rookie Blue" will further complicate the love square between Andy, Sam, Nick and Marlo when a copycat kidnapper forces the precinct to revisit a haunted case of their past. In a recent interview with TVLine, executive producer Tassie Cameron talks about the emotional toll that the episode will have on its characters.

"There are shock waves that are big and go beyond the case itself into why Sam and Andy broke up, where Traci's at emotionally, where everybody's at emotionally," Cameron said. "We thought it was an interesting way to get to have a look at where everybody's at and how that affected them and is still affecting them."

"The person at the heart of this story is Gail, the survivor of this horrible situation," she added. "She's always felt guilty and somewhat responsible for Jerry's death, and she's the one who has the biggest story in this episode. Also, we've tried not to dwell on it too much - because what's there to say? - but this was a very emotional episode for Traci, who finally gets to articulate where she's at. And for Sam and Andy, who are working together on this case, it was the beginning of the end of their relationship. So it's hard for everybody."

Cameron went on to say Andy and Nick will become more self-aware of their blossoming relationship in wake of the case. She also hinted that Nick may have a better understanding of where he stands with Andy than Andy does Nick.

The case will surely have ramifications that will ripple throughout to rest of the season, so be sure not to miss this week's episode of "Rookie Blue" Thursday, July 25 on ABC.
