When Bungie left the Halo series after creating the games and making the series one of the greatest titles of all time, many gamers were equally disenchanted by the move, and interested to find out what new ideas Bungie could bring to the table. So far, Bungie's new game Destiny has wowed gamers almost universally, and is expected to be one of the hottest new IP's on the next-gen consoles. However, one of Bungie's chief rivals will be the latest entry into the Halo series, as both sci-fi action games are expected to be released sometime in 2014.

Many gamers have tried to compare the two games, including pointing out similarities between the enemies in Destiny and the Covenant in the Halo games. In the newest edition of the Mail Sack, Bungie was quick to dismiss the claims that the two enemies are similar, claiming that the enemies in Destiny will be much more diverse:

"Take the Fallen, for example. When people saw them at E3, they were all too quick to compare them to the Elites you fought in Halo. In truth, the Fallen are as varied and diverse as the Covenant as a whole."

While some of the basics about the two groups of enemies are similar (they are aliens, look mean, use firearms, look as though they could easily rip gamers apart in a real battle), the next-gen technology and overall aesthetic change allows for an increased variety of enemies found in Destiny. After all, the Covenant were designed for the original Xbox, and the decisions made for those early Halo titles informed the aesthetic that future games would have to follow. With Destiny, Bungie is able to experiment and go in many different directions, all thanks to the additional hardware power and increased development time. Bungie also discusses how its enemies act in a greater variety of ways than the original Covenant soldiers, due to the variety of different species encountered:

"Check out the demo again, and see how many varieties you can spot. Some of the smaller targets, like the Shanks and Dregs, will draw your fire...The larger crews, the ones that include Vandals or Captains, will have you wishing you brought that Fireteam. And let's not forget about those moments when we'll drop something as big as a Devil Walker in your path."

Both Halo 5 and Destiny will be available sometime in 2014.
