Rockstar Games debuted a new gameplay trailer for Grand Theft Auto 5 Tuesday that gives gamers a taste of what is to come when the game is released Sept. 17 on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

The trailer begins with many different scenes showing the various locals of Los Santos, as well as the diverse ways players can get around. Airplanes, boats, cars, both fancy and beat-up, and even scuba gear are all shown in action. Additionally, we get to see the various areas of the fictional Southern California city, including upscale shopping districts, hobo collectives, and mountainous wooded areas. Next we get reintroduced to the three playable characters and their basic personalities. We get Michael arguing with his family, Franklin arguing with another gangster, and Trevor trying to flush a human foot down the toilet.

A sample of switching between the three characters during missions is then shown. Players switch from Michael repelling and breaking into a building, to Franklin covering him with a sniper rifle, as Trevor pilots a helicopter. Switching between characters outside of missions is shown as well, which can lead to the player interrupting some mundanity to being thrust into the middle of a police chase. Various other activities are shown as well. Players will be able to play golf and engage in hunting minigames, as well as go on bounty hunting missions in their spare time.

The mission structure is also explained, and it is revealed that it is up to the player to decide how the mission is planned and executed. Once a mission is complete, the player can decide how the three individual characters will spend their cash, ranging from going out and buying goods, such as cars or clothes, or investing the money in stocks and real estate. The video ends with an online mode hinted at, but not shown.

Overall, the game looks impressive, and should be the biggest blockbuster events for gamers this year.
