Rosie Rivera has threatened to sue director Francisco Joel Mendoza.

The sister of the deceased singer Jenni told Estrellas Hoy that she was upset by the lack of respect Mendoza has showed the family. She stated that the Mexican director did not have any courtesy with the family and did not even approach them about his new movie.

She added that if he would have asked her relatives for permission they would have given it to him. She stated that Mendoza also began his film without any respect or honor toward La Diva de la Banda's children.

Rivera also threatened to sue the director. She stated that she was not the type to go to court but when they disrespected her family she would fight for justice. She also said that her family was already taking action against Mendoza because they did not want anyone else to take advantage of the family's suffering.

Rivera concluded that she was already speaking to Hollywood producers for the family's own film and that it was an honor to see that the producers were taking her sister's story seriously.

Controversy has burdened Mendoza's production ever since he announced it. The deceased diva's relatives expressed their disapproval because they feel that they are the only individuals with the rights to make the film. Mendoza recently revealed a document that was signed by Rivera and gave him authorization to make the movie. He also stated that he knew the family would not approve but was ready to confront any legal issues and even go to jail.

"La Diva de la Banda" is slated to start shooting in July. According to reports the film will contain 80% of Rivera's life and will also have fictionalized events. The film is slated to cost $14 million dollars and will then hit theaters on December 6th in Mexico. Mendoza also expects a DVD immediately in order to expand the audience. The family's planned film is still in pre-production with very little information revealed.
