Slowly but surely, the ninth and final season of "How I Met Your Mother' is approaching. Although fans will have to wait until fall for the premiere, it's good to check in with the characters from time to time. During his recent appearance on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon," star Neil Patrick Harris, who plays Barney Stinson, talked about the upcoming final season while promoting the 67th Tony Awards, which he hosted Sunday evening.

"It's bittersweet. No one wanted the show to just go on for a multitude of years where we just never said who the Mother was, you know, when the title of the show sort of begets an answer. So we showed who the Mother was at the last scene of this last season, which was kind of awesome. So it's nice. We've had a lovely almost decade of a chapter there."

Although the identity of the Mother is the underlying theme of the entire series, Harris is right. At some point, the secret had to be revealed. The show can't continue to string along its fans, pumping out season after season, each one alluding to the Mother's identity without ever providing an answer. Although it will be sad to see it go, "How I Met Your Mother" has had an incredible run, and the final season is bound to be unforgettable. Fans will finally get to see how it all ends. There are so many loose ends that must be resolved, and now it's time.

How exactly will the series end? Harris shared some of the details regarding the finale as well. "Death and dismemberment" and "an earthquake." Of course, Harris was joking, yet it's funny to imagine what such an ending might look like.

Check out a clip from Harris's appearance on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" below where he talks about the final season of "How I Met Your Mother" as well as his plans to move to New York City following the finale.
