It was nearly two weeks ago that we were first tantalized with a Jelly Bean update for the Sony Xperia S, and while the initial announcement turned out to be a hoax, Sony's followed up and now it seems a new update will be rolling out by the end of next week.

The Sony Xperia S Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean firmware version 6.2.B.0.211 was recently certified June 4, and Sony has confirmed that the rollout should begin during weeks 23 and 24. A quick scan of the calendar reveals that these coincides with the dates June 3 and June 16.

"Sony Mobile will soon rollout new Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean firmware to Xperia S (LT26i) owners.  Firmware version 6.2.B.0.211 was certified earlier today by the PTCRB and will mainly bring bug fixes over the previous version 6.2.B.0.200. Sony has confirmed that the update will land during week 23-24," wrote Xperia Blog.

The rollout will happen in batches, Sony says, so Xperia S owners might have to wait some time before it lands on their handset. Sony also encourages Xperia S users to use "PC Companion, Update Service or Bridge for Mac" to check in for the update.

Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean will bring a huge boost to the Xperia S as it will boost system performance and interface fluidity with Project Butter, and introduce Google Now, a personal assistant that aims to present useful information to the user before the user even asks.
