In a move that might seem underwhelming to many, LG unveiled a white Nexus 4 with the exact same specs as the black variant. One caveat? It looks like the electronics manufacturer is, in fact, not currently working on the Nexus 5 handset.

According to Dutch website All About Phones, translated by Android Beat, LG is not working with Google on the next-gen Nexus handset, as was originally believed.

"There are currently no plans for a Nexus 5 made by us. We don't need that kind of marketing exposure anymore. The Nexus 4 was a great success, even with the supply issues and we have a great relationship with Google. But we won't make the Nexus 5," LG's head of Europe, Won Kim, told All About Phones.

This might be disappointing to many Nexus fans who were pleased with LG's last offering, the Nexus 4. Still, not all hope is lost, as LG released a statement soon after the quote above hit the Internet.

"What Mr. Won Kim said is that we are not currently working on a Nexus 5, which is true. But that doesn't mean we would turn down the opportunity," LG said.

So there you have it - no LG Nexus 5, at least for now. The news contradicts an earlier report, which stated that LG and Google were discussing plans for future device partnerships, including a new Nexus. What Google is planning for its next handset is still up in the air, although the company is rumored to be tapping Motorola for a customizable X Phone. Of course, the rumors surrounding that smartphone are just as unclear, so be sure to take everything skeptically. Until Google announces something officially, all we can do is sit back and wait.
