The Samsung Galaxy S4 has been named the top-rated smartphone by Consumer Reports, beating out the previous titleholder, the LG Optimus G.

"The Samsung Galaxy S 4, one of the most advanced Android smart phones ever, is our new top-rated smart phone. The S4 delivered top-notch performance in the most critical areas of our tests, including the camera," Consumer Reports writes. "The S4 has an excellent 5-inch, high-definition (1080p) touch-screen display, as well as oodles of gesture- and sensor-based tools for accessing and sharing content you create and capture on your phone. The display is sensitive enough to use with gloves on-handy during cold weather."

Consumer Reports also noted the Galaxy S4's ability to multi-task. "The S4 lets you run two apps simultaneously in a split-screen view. For instance, you can watch a video while checking e-mail, or you can use Google Maps and Messaging simultaneously."

With the Galaxy S4 assuming the top perch, the LG Optimus G moves down to the second place slot in the Consumer Reports smartphone rankings. The HTC One is third, while the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Apple iPhone 5 round out the top five.

Customers seem to agree, as Samsung expects to sell its 10 millionth Galaxy S4 by the end of the month.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 features a 1.6GHz eight-core Exynos 5 Octa processor or a 1.9GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor (depending on country), 2GB of RAM, a 5-inch 1920x1080 Full HD AMOLED display at 441 ppi, a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with 1080p HD video, a 2-megapixel front facing camera, internal storage between 16 and 64GB, an SD card slot that can accommodate an additional 64GB, a polycarbonate body, Smart Pause and floating touch tech and runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
