Shonda Rhimes has done it again. Nine seasons into her hit medical drama on ABC, 'Grey's Anatomy,' and Rhimes is still able to keep fans on the edge of their seats. Last night's season finale wasn't quite as traumatic as season eight's plane crash but there was no lack of intense drama.

We break the episode down for you to bring you up to speed on your favorite doctors.

[CAUTION SPOILERS AHEAD]

Meredith & Derek: Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) have gone through enough hardship to last several lifetimes, but why not add a complicated cesarean birth at a hospital with no functioning electricity to their list terrible things life events, right? In the previous episode, fans witnessed Meredith's fall down the stairs, which until last night had proven to be nothing of consequence. Poor Meredith goes into labor right as the hospital loses electricity due to the superstorm headed towards Seattle. To make matters worse, she and her baby boy must head to the OR for a cesarean section when complications arise.

Once the baby is safely delivered, one of the interns on hand is told to close Meredith up, only to find that her spleen has ruptured and her life is in danger. Thankfully, Meredith's emergency is just what Bailey needed to get out of her funk and back into the OR. In the end, the happy couple named their bouncing baby boy Bailey.

Arizona & Callie: The adorable Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) and Callie (Sara Ramirez) have had a rough year. After the fatal plane crash that left Arizona without one of her legs, the couple struggled to get back into their groove. Towards the end of the season, they seemed to get back to a good place before Arizona cheated with visiting Dr. Lauren Boswell (guest star Hilarie Burton). Arizona spent the season finale making sure newborns stayed alive in the NICU that is until her wife came to visit and discovered her infidelity. What followed was a heated argument where Arizona told Callie that she didn't have it as hard as she did after the plane crash.

Christina and Owen: The recently divorced couple clearly still loves each other deeply. So much so that Christina (Sandra Oh) is willing to let go of Owen (Kevin McKidd) when she realizes that he'll never truly be happy if he's not a father, and motherhood is simply not part of her future plans. The two officially break things off when Owen fails to tell Christina that she is enough for him.

Alex and Jo: To say that Alex (Justin Chambers) has had very bad luck in the romance department is the understatement of the year. The two best friends, who have had to deal with Jo's (Camilla Luddington) somewhat abusive boyfriend in the last couple of episodes, finally told each other how they felt. Well, at least Alex did after some prodding from Arizona. Although Jo didn't say "I love you" back to Alex, it's safe to assume she feels similarly after the huge kiss she plants on him.

April and Jackson: Sure, April (Sarah Drew) is recently engaged but can anyone really blame her for still having feelings for her best friend, who she just happen to lose her virginity to? In a terrible accident, the doctors of Grey Sloan Memorial witness a blue school bus overturn and set on fire. In a heroic move, Jackson (Jesse Williams) saves a little girl trapped on the bus, but not before a giant explosion engulfs the bus and sends April into a panic. Thankfully, Jackson is safe but that doesn't stop April from freaking out on him while he's being treated. As the episode closes, April finally confesses her feelings for Jackson and leaves the future of her wedding in his hands.

Bailey and Richard: While Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and Richard (James Pickens Jr.), they are close friends who had a terrible falling out after Bailey's staph infection incident. While Richard pushed hard for Bailey to get back to the OR, Bailey pushed back against what she thought was a lack of support. After jumping back into the game in Meredith's surgery, Bailey sets out to find Richard, who is nowhere to be found. Of course fans know that Richard has been hurt badly in the electrical room of the hospital. Eager fans will have to wait until season 10 to find out Richard's fate.

'Grey's Anatomy' returns for season 10 this fall on ABC.
