Grand Theft Auto 5 has millions of gamers around the world waiting eagerly for any sort of information about the game before the game's September 17 release date. Recently, Rockstar allowed a select few to actually see a new gameplay preview for the game that showed off many different aspects of the game and Los Santos itself.

The first thing that grabs many about the game is that Los Santos and the surrounding area is huge, and offers the chance to get lost for hours, according to IGN.

"You've never seen anything quite like it in the Grand Theft Auto series. Mountains, forests, rivers and more grab your eye, but what I really stared at during the descent was the city of Los Santos in the distance. While Rockstar promises that missions, sidequests and much more happen everywhere on the map, it's the big city that beckons the most, especially with GTA V's new ambient soundtrack playing softly in the background, further pressing how deceivingly quiet and serene things are out there in the country when compared to the nearby metropolis."

When not exploring the terrain, players will be performing heists, the main type of story missions. Players will have to coordinate and prepare all three playable characters, and the game will allow players to switch between Michael, Trevor, and Franklin for a unique experience every time.

"You can switch between them on the fly to most effectively extricate yourself from the situation. From Trevor's lookout post, for instance, you can fire on the cops with a sniper rifle, offering support to Franklin, who the cops have hemmed in. Your counterparts can fend for themselves when you're not controlling them, but they'll typically leave the really exciting stuff to you. When an opportunity arises to shoot down a police helicopter with a rocket launcher, the game encourages you to switch to that character and do it yourself, rather than letting it happen offscreen."-Gamespot

Of course, if players do not feel like exploring the countryside or robbing banks, they can wander around the city itself, and so-called "ambient activities," as Rockstar calls them in a different Gamespot article, will present themselves, leading players to decide how they want to deal with these side-quests.

"...rather than walking up to a discrete mission icon on your minimap, you'll instead happen upon scenarios out of the blue. It's up to you whether you want to help these folks or simply walk on by."

Grand Theft Auto 5 promises to be the swan song of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and Rockstar appears to have something special on their hands.
